Generation: 3

  1. 4.  Robert Munro was born about 1710 (son of Alexander Munro); died in 1746 in Dingwall, , Ross and Cromarty, Scotland.

    Notes:

Dr. Robert Munro lived in Dingwall, Scotland. He was the second son of Alexander, Laird of Killachoan.

Robert was a physician by profession, and as such joined the royal forces, under Lord Loudon, against Bonnie Prince Charlie, the Pretender. He served the whole of the long and fatiguing campaign of 1745, suffered exceedingly from exposure and privation, and died from the consequences the following year, quite a young man. After his death, his widow resided at Drummond, about two miles from Fowlis. She was an amiable woman, highly educated, and beloved by all who knew her. A slight accident, which occurred a few years after her husband's death, unexpectedly proved fatal, and she died after a short illness, at the early age of thirty years, leaving two children, Henry, born in 1730 and Alexander, a year or two later.

Estimate: This birth date is an estimate based on the birth dates of nearest relatives or contemporaries, or based on other clues such as christening date, marriage date, birth order, etc.

Robert married Anne Munro. Anne (daughter of John Munro and Catharine Bayne) was born about 1718; died about 1748. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 5.  Anne Munro was born about 1718 (daughter of John Munro and Catharine Bayne); died about 1748.

    Notes:

Error alert: Anne Munro is said to be the daughter of John Munro, fourth Laird of Teanourd, and Catharine Bayne, his wife. Alexander Mackenzie lists no Laird of Teanourd named John in his "History of the Munros", and none of the listed Lairds was married to a Catharine Bayne. It is thought that the information given about Anne's ancestry is incorrect. Anne is reported to have been born about 1718 and her first child in 1730 when she was about 12 years old - also probably in error.

After the death of her husband, Anne lived at Drummond, about two miles from Fowlis. She was an amiable woman, highly educated, and beloved by all who knew her. A slight accident, which occurred a few years after her husband's death, unexpectedly proved fatal, and she died after a short illness, at the early age of thirty years, leaving two children, Henry, born in 1730, and Alexander, a year or two later.

    2. 2. Alexander Munro was born about 1732; and died.

Generation: 4

  1. 8.  Alexander Munro was born about 1685 in Of, Killachoan, Ross-Shire, Scotland; and died.

    Notes:

The Fisher reference says that Alexander's father was "Robert a Laird, son of the Laird of Tenaird whose Father was Sir Robert Munro of Fowlis." This genealogy is at odds with that found in Mackenzie's "History of the Munros". The latter is held as more correct.
