Andrew Monroe

Notes:

Andrew was born in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania in 1817. Different references give different specific dates. Ref 4 says 17 Jul, ref 2 says 15 Jul, ref 3 says "15 or 18 Jul."

Family tradition says that he worked as a drover. In about 1840, he passed through the town of Moorefield, Ohio. He met a girl there and fell in love with her, so when he finished his job as a drover, he returned to Moorefield, married her and settled there. His brother, John, also moved to Moorefield at the same time and also married a local girl.

Andrew is found on the 1850 census listed as a plasterer with $300 in property living with his family in Moorefield.

He served in the military during the American Civil War.

Proof that Andrew was the son of Charles is not too strong. The Charles C. Munroe, III reference says Andrew was the brother of Charles instead of his son.

2. Christopher Monroe was born on 6 Dec 1842 in , , Ohio, USA; and died.
3. Basil Monroe was born about 1846 in , , Ohio, USA; and died.
4. Lowery Monroe was born about 1848 in , , Ohio, USA; and died.
5. Franklin Monroe was born about 1851; and died.
6. Harriet Monroe was born on 14 Sep 1853 in Moorefield, Harrison Co., Ohio, USA; died on 9 Jun 1940 in Moorefield, Harrison Co., Ohio, USA.
7. William Monroe was born about 1855; and died.
8. Charles Monroe was born about 1857; and died.
9. Grant Monroe was born about 1859; and died.

Notes:

Proof that Charles was the father of Andrew is not too strong.

Entries from the Washington County, Pennsylvania Appearance Docket from the early 1820's shows that Charles was an insolvent debtor. It appears that he never owned any property in Washington County.

Andrew made a will which said he was about to travel on a voyage to Europe. The will named his wife and two sons and appointed as executor "my friend Doctor Samuel Murdock of Canonsburg."
