Miss Nancy Ann Monroe and Californian Marry; Nuptials Are Surprise

Robert O'Neal Claims Prominent Quincy Girl as Bride

Announcement by Mr. and Mrs. E. N. Monroe of the marriage of their granddaughter, Miss Nancy Ann Monroe, daughter of Neal Monroe, to Robert O'Neal, son of Dr. and Mrs. Robert M. O'Neal, of Santa Monica, California, comes as a complete surprise to friends. Mr. O'Neal arrived here Monday morning, and the wedding plans were hastily made, the ceremony taking place Monday evening at 6 o'clock in the home of the Very Rev. Julius A. Schaad, dean of the Cathedral of St. John, who officiated. Mr. and Mrs. Monroe and grandson, Monroe Bonfoey, a cousin of the bride, were present for the ceremony. Mr. Monroe gave his granddaughter in marriage, and Mr. Bonfoey served as best man. The bride wore a white tailored frock, with hat and accessories in white.

Mr. and Mrs. O'Neal are remaining in Quincy for the present at the Monroe home and they are to be honored with a dinner party later in the week by the bride's grandparents. Friends are enjoying meeting Mr. O'Neal, who has never visited here before. He and Miss Monroe became acquainted when both were in school in California several years ago, and while no announcement of their engagement had been made, it was known to a number.

The prominence of the bride's family in the social and business life of Quincy and her own popularity in the young social set, makes the wedding one of the outstanding events of the season. A most attractive and charming girl, Mrs. O'Neal has had advantage of education in well known schools and travel abroad and in this country. After graduation from the Girls' Collegiate college in Glendora, California, Mrs. O'Neal attended a private school in New York City, and later entered Barnard college of Columbia University, completing a course there in February of this year. She spent last summer in Europe and was in Florida with her grandparents the past winter.

Mr. O'Neal's family is known to Quincyans who visit Santa Monica, including Mr. and Mrs. Charles T. Dazey, whose son, Frank Dazey, resides near the O'Neal home. The father is one of the most distinguished surgeons of southern California, where his family is numbered among the old and prominent residents. The son was graduated on 3 Jun from Occidental college in Los Angeles. He and a college friend made the trip to Quincy in record time by motor, leaving Santa Monica Friday night, and reaching here Monday morning.

Mr. O'Neal intends to follow in his father's profession and expects to continue his medical studies in Occidental college the coming year. It is probable that Mrs. O'Neal also will enroll in the college with him. They already have a home in Santa Monica.

Mrs. O'Neal's father and Mrs. Monroe who were in Quincy a few months ago on their way to Florida have returned to California and with Mr. Monroe's son, Edward Neal Monroe, left Monday on a camping trip in Arizona. They are traveling by motor so it is not expected will receive word of the wedding for some time.
