James Miller Munro

Notes:

James moved to Pennsylvania with his brothers, Charles and Nathan Allen. In 1850, he was living in Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania.

«i»Apparently Mary Philinda brought charges in the Presbyterian Church against her sister-in-law for cursing at her. The sister-in-law was Adaline Monroe, wife of James Miller Monroe. ... the following «/i»[may be] «i»why the family has lost touch with one another:

The Membership Role at p. 303 of the Session Records for the Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church indicate that James Miller Monroe joined the church in 1850. In parenthesis after his names it says "(Gone West)."

This is puzzling, as the Session Minutes and Records 1814-1842 have the following entry: "James M. Munroe and Adaline Munroe presented themselves for examination
and was received by the Session." (p. 54, March 28, 1834)

James, who was apparently called Miller, seems to have been a problem to the church. Church records record the following: June 2, 1837 -- Resolved that Miller Monroe be cited to appear before the Session the first Friday in July to answer such charges as may be called against him.

July 7 1837 -- Common fame saith that Miller Munroe is guilty of 1 attending a Ball or balls 2 Gambling or playing cards 3 neglecting the ordinances of Gods House. The Church of Christ against Miller Munroe.

There follows a copy of the summons that was sent to Miller: Sir: You are here by summoned to appear before the session at the house of the Rev. A. M. Reynolds on the 7 day of July at 4 o'clock p.m. to answer to the written complaint and information [unreadable phrase] and by order of the session.

June 14 -- The records note that Miller failed to appear, and a second summons was sent to him to appear before the Session in August.

Ref 1 says Henry and Mary were married on 12 Aug 1771 and that he died in Hanson, Massachusetts. Ref 2 says Henry was born 11 Jun 1751 and gives a reference "VR/154."

Ref 1 says that Mary (or Sally) married Henry Monroe, Sr., but this is thought to be in error. She may have been the daughter or granddaughter of Henry and Jane (MacLucas) Miller.
