  1. 1.  Nathan Stewart Wheeler was born on 17 Dec 1847 in , Cook Co., Illinois, USA (son of Nathan S. Wheeler and Sarah Dustin); died on 8 Feb 1929 in Willow Springs, Howell Co., Missouri, USA; was buried on 12 Feb 1929 in Olathe Memorial Gardens Cem., Olathe, Johnson Co., Kansas, USA.

    Notes:

Nathan built basements, foundations and streets in the Kansas City area in the early 1900's. At one time he owned a shoe shop. Family history passed down by word of mouth said that nathan had bought a lot of red shoes and could not sell them even for 15 cents a pair. So he put them out in front of his store and put a sign on them that said, "Special $1.00 a pair." He sold every pair because the women thought they were getting a bargain.

Nathan could speak German and French fluently. He taught a few words to his children, but it is said that after the outbreak of World War II, the children were not allowed to speak German again - however, it appears that Nathan died before the war started, so this story is probably not true.

On Nathan's death certificate, his father is listed as "Lonzo" and his mother as "unknown".
