When Jason was two years old, he was adopted by his aunt and uncle, Simon and Abigail Hartwell. He had his name changed by an act of legislation to Jason H. T. Newell.

He lived in Bridge Village, Hillsborough, New Hampshire and was in the mercantile business.

Jason's children are listed here as children of his first wife, but the reference doesn't specify which of his wives was the mother.

Joseph married Betsy Wheeler on 8 Jun 1815. Betsy (daughter of Oliver Wheeler and Hepzibah Munroe) was born on 16 Jul 1792 in Hillsborough, Hillsborough Co., New Hampshire, USA; died on 18 Oct 1879 in Henniker, New Hampshire. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Notes:

Betsy's first husband died at sea and was buried on the shored of South Carolina. Their only child, Jason, was adopted by her sister Abigail.

Betsy and her second husband, Barnard, wived in the northeast part of Henniker, New Hampshire.

Oliver married Hepzibah Munroe on 3 Mar 1773 in Acton, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts, USA. Hepzibah (daughter of Nathan Munroe and Mercy Benjamin) was born on 3 Aug 1751 in Billerica, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts, USA; died on 4 Nov 1829 in Hillsboro Center, Hillsborough Co., New Hampshire, United States. Notes:

Hepzibah's husband, Oliver saw active service in the Revolution.

Hepzibah and her husband moved to Hillsborough, New Hampshire in about 1778, as his name appears on the tax list for 1779. They settled in "Concord End".

One reference says Hepzibah was the daughter of Joseph Munroe [2870].
