Elijah lost his left hand at the age of ten when a gun he was holding exploded.

He settled first at Upper Village, but upon being appointed High Sheriff in 1845, he moved to Amherst, New Hampshire, where he lived for ten years. He then returned to Hillsborough.

Elijah married Aris Bixby on 15 Sep 1818. Aris was born on 10 May 1797; died on 9 Aug 1831-1834. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Notes:

Joseph studied medicine with Dr. Francis Kittredge, of Tewksbury, Massachusetts. He settled in Hillsborough, New Hampshire near the Centre on the Dunbar Place about 1784. He was the second physician in the town.

Doctor Munroe had an extended practice reaching into the adjoining towns. He made call upon call among his patients at a time when sickness was exceptionally prevalent for three successive days without rest or sleep until the unusual exertion brought on the brief illness which resulted in his death at an early age.

Joseph and Azuba had several other children who are not listed.

Joseph's gravestone says he died 2 Feb 1798 - age 41.

Joseph was buried at the Hillsborough Cen. Cemetery.

Joseph married Azuba Henry on 25 Nov 1785. Azuba was born in 1760 in Carlisle, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts, USA; died on 23 Dec 1847 in Amherst, Hillsborough Co., New Hampshire, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
