In about 1823, Jonas moved to Bedford, Massachusetts and went to work for the merchant, Elijah Stearns, Esq. In time, Jonas succeeded Elijah.
His first wife was the daughter of Rev. Samuel and Abigail (French) Stearns. His second wife was the daughter of Captain Abner and Anna (Russell-Estabrooks) Stearns.

(see Clan Munro files - Cones, Mona) One of the two refrences is in error. Another reference gives her name as Sarah Hennis.
