  1. 1.  Hector Hugh Munro was born in 1890 in , , , Burma (son of Munro); died in 1916 in Beaumont-Hamil, France.

    Notes:

Hector was born in Burma where his father was an inspector-general of the Burmese Police. His mother died before Hector was two years old so he was sent to England to be raised by two aunts.

After completing his education, Hector traveled with his father, who eventually arranged work for him in Burma. Seven bouts of malaria in thirteen months convinced Hector to return to England.

He began a career as a journalist, which lasted for many years and which saw him employed by several newspapers. Humor, wit, and imagination were his strengths, both as a journalist and as a writer of short stories and novels, published under the name "Saki", a character in a 12th century Persian poem.

At the beginning of World War I, Hector signed up as a private, refusing offers of a commission. He was killed during an attack on Beaumont-Hamil, France.
