Alexander married Ann Janet Montgomery in 1890. Ann was born on 26 Oct 1870 in , Argylshire, , Scotland; died on 13 Dec 1952 in Bainbridge Island, Kitsap Co., Washington, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 3.  Ann Janet Montgomery was born on 26 Oct 1870 in , Argylshire, , Scotland; died on 13 Dec 1952 in Bainbridge Island, Kitsap Co., Washington, USA.

    Notes:

Janet was born in Scotland, but emigrated to Seattle, Washington, USA to marry Alexander Munro. In the year after their marriage, they moved to Crystal Springs on Bainbridge Island, where Janet lived for 62 years until her death.

Following are excerpts from a letter written by her granddaughter, Mrs. John Tarabochia, which was published in ref. (3):

"I'd like it very much if you'd write a few lines about a truly deserving woman, a lovely old lady of 80, my grandmother, Mrs. Alexander (Janet) Munro.

"She's lived at Point White, which of course is Crystal Springs or Gibson's Landing to her, for nearly 60 years. Her ten children were raised and schooled on the Island and over half of her grandchildren, and at either McDonald or Pleasant Beach you'll find a great-grandchild.

"Visiting her on top of the hill you'll always be invited to a cup of tea and a piece of cake or asked to pick some fresh fruit. Always sitting in front of a fireplace made of granite that her husband built...she'll tell you lots about the Island.

(She is) "a spry little woman of less than 100 pounds, with beautiful silver hair and an alert mind. But her hands are not as steady as when John, Duncan, Bill, Ann, Mary, George, Euphemia, Isabell, Gordon and Jimmie were children.

(She'll tell you) "when a girl in her teens she tutored the children of a lord and lady in Scotland...and how her brother worked in the Old Port Blakely mill for a dollar a day and swam part way home."

Janet was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Ref. (2) says that in 1952 she had 22 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. But ref. (3) says that in 1949 she had 32 grandchildren, and nine great- grandchildren.
