Obituary Renville Co., North Dakota : FUNERAL RITES HELD FOR STAFFORD PIONEER

Following a lingering illness, Mrs. Laura Jane St Croix passed away at Deaconness Hospital at Kenmare on Sunday morning Feb 1 at 4:40 AM at the age of 71 years 7 months.

She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Munro, a pioneer family of Stafford Township. She was of a family of nine children, four sisters and four brothers: Sarah, Maggie, Jane, Emily, James, Albert, Charles and Pearly.

Mrs. St Croix was born at New Carlisle, Quebec, Canada on July 1 1871.

At the age of 17 years she moved with her family to Stillwater, Minnesota. She was united in marriage to Walter Scott St Croix June 11, 1891 at Stillwater, where they made their home until coming to Stafford Twp in April 1900. Here she has lived until her death on Sunday.

To this union were born seven children: Charles of Velva, Walter of Minot, Norman and James of Norma, Celina of Clifford and Sadie of Kenmare. Her husband and a daughter Hazel preceeded her in death, the former passing away eight years ago.

Mrs. St Croix was converted, baptized and united with the Newport Baptist Church in the summer of 1936. She was a member of the local Mission Circle.

She leaves to mourn, besides her children, one sister, Mrs. Charles Kurrasch of Portland, OR and one brother, Albert Munro of Minneapolis, MN., thirty-three grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

All her children and her brother were present for the funeral rites.

This devoted mother has led an unusually busy, useful and unselfish life. Besides rearing her own family in a pioneer country which naturally demanded much of labor and sacrifice, she and her husband gave a home to another family of children. During the flu epidemic of 1918 their daughter, Mrs. James Berry passed away leaving six small children. The grandparents at once took the children into their home where they grew to man and womanhood in the comfortable surroundings of loving and ambiable grandparents. One grandson lives at home but the grandmother lived to see all the others established in homes of their own.

With all the duties of the farm home Mrs. St Croix still found time to be a friend and neighbor to all those about her. Her faith in God and her ever cheery disposition made her life an inspiration to all with whom she came in contact.

The deceased has been in poor health for several years, and the past two years she has been confined to her bed most of the time, so death came as a relief from intense suffering.

Funeral services were held Thursday at the Edson Presbyterian Church with Rev. Haakadahl officiating. Interment was in the Rosehill Cemetery by the side of her husband. Pallbearers were Charles Assels, Jacob Shaver, Chris Peterson, Simon Cook, George McGillivary and Hans Larsen.
