    Notes:

From THE FRENCH QUARTER by Ron Graham: P 158

"Guillaume was born in Griffintown, the notorious shantytown between the river and the railway tracks of Montreal. He was the ninth of eleven children and the third son of an illiterate shoemaker named Pierre Moncel (sometimes Moncell, Monsel or even Leure' as a variation on the origional name of Pierre's grandfather Charles Leret, the soldier who had come to New France shortly before the British conquest).
"My great- grandfather had picked up some education from the priests, some English from the Irish kids, and went to work sweeping floors in a bank.. He was listed as a clerk when he was twenty-seven and asked for the hand of Alphonsine Fauteux. They were married at Notre-Dame on January 10, 1871, fifty-one years to the day after Guilliame's own parents were married there."
With the help of his in-laws and their family connections, Guilliame was eventually appointed to the board of the bank where he once swept floors. He held esteemed positions on many boards and organizations, and eventually became truly wealthy through real estate holdings in the old Montreal area. In addition to his own children he cared for his wife's widowed sister, the sister's daughter and grandaughter.
Guilliame and Alphonsine had seven children in all - five surviving to adulthood, and two children who died in their youth - a boy who was killed in a freak fall in a haystack, and a girl who succumed to pneumonia.

He had been born in a village on the north shore of the St Laurence toward Trois-Rivieres.
