"Ira" Walter Bechsted died 30 March 1947. He was a professional photographer in Iroqois. His obituary, published in the Cornwall Freeholder 7 April 1947, listed his death as 30 March. He had a large patronage as an artist, and during the period between the death of S.B. Fell and the coming of George Smith did work for many Morrisburg people, to most of whom he was "Ira Walter", the surname unused.

Ira married Effie Reddick on 25 Sep 1901 in Morrisburg, Matilda Twp, Ontario, Presbyterian Chu. Effie was born on 28 Feb 1874 in Williamsburg, Dundas Co., Ontario, Canada; died on 16 Nov 1948 in Iroquois, Ontario, Canada. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Daughter of Albert Franklin Reddick and Mary Marcellus; grandaughter of William Henry Reddick and Mary Elizabeth Beckstead.

Effie Becksted's will - #3405 - was written 21 March 1946; she was a married woman of Iroqois. " $1,000. to those of my grandchildren who are living at my decease. My real estate in the village of Iroquois, I give unto my husband during the term of his life. All the rest and residue of my estate to my 2 daughters Irene and Mary."
Probate granted to Effie Irene Keays of Ottawa, married woman, and Mary Wooton of Village of Stoney Creek, married woman.

George Beckstead is buried at Mt Pleasant Cemetery, Mariatown, as well as his wife and children, Mary, Lucy and Grace. He farmed lot 33, con 3, Williamsburg Twp. His father, David, willed him the east half of this lot and the west 1/4 of the lot to Ira Walter Beckstead, George's son. His will #1550, written 7 Sept 1921 and registered 2 May 1922, general Register, at Morrisburg Registry Office. He instructs a gravemarker to be purchased "to cost not less than $200." To his daughter "Fannie Isabella" he leaves all his "furniture and effects"; the residual of his estate to be sold and divided equally among his four children: Elizabeth Adelaide Purvis, Edith Read, Fanny Isabella Beckstead and Ira Walker Beckstead.

David is listed as a farmer, Con 3, Williamsburg Twp, resides in a frame house in 1852, 1861, 1871 and 1881 census. His will written 13 Mar 1884 and registered 22 Apr 1884 as #6434 in Morrisburg Registry Office was signed as "David Bedsted"; lists 4 surviving children and a grandson "Ira Walter". Mary, his wife, receives house and contents, etc., for "as long as she lives" and goes to son George David Beckstead.
