  1. 1.  Charles Monroe was born about 1795 in , , , Scotland; died about 1842 in Utica, Oneida Co., New York, USA.

    Notes:

It is thought that Charles was born in Scotland between 1790 and 1810. Ref. (2) conjectures that he was a Highlander and was probably from the vicinity of Inverness.

He arrived in New York State in 1811. He was a stone mason by trade and was naturalized in Albany, New York in 1828.

He married Mary "Polly" Rogers, probably in 1828-1829. She was the daughter of Samuel and Lucinda Rogers, who were both born in New London County, Connecticut. Mary was born in June or July 1812.

Charles appears in the City Directory of Utica, New York for 1843-1844. He lived on Bridge Street at John Street and worked as a mason. The 1846 directory lists Mary Munroe as "Widow of Charles".
