Per The Clan Munro Association Newsletter, the Eagle Flyer, Spring, 2016, article in memory of John Howard Monroe:
"Dr. John H. Monroe, MD, 93, died from complications following pneumonia... on January 12, 2016. He was a pillar of a man with accomplishments in anything he put his mind to: medicine, furniture making, antiquities, antiques, and the Clan Munro Association, USA. His life was rich, full and varied despite the fact that he survived infantile polio... He believed deeply in this credo: 'But man is not made for defeat. A man can be destroyed, but not defeated.' 'Dr. Jack' and his wife 'Boo' hosted the 1986 Gathering in Winston-Salem, NC and the 1997 Gathering in Scotland. He was one of the partners in the ten-year time-sharing which created the Pavilion at Foulis Castle, now available for rent through the Scottish Heritage to benefit the castle. He led the fundraising for the Foulis Point Munro Museum, recording and acknowledging hundreds of contributions totaling over $100,000. Dr. Jack and Boo received the Eagle Award at the 2003 Gathering in Arlington, Texas."
