    Notes:

Alexander got his education in Inverness, Scotland and served an apprenticeship as a stone cutter on Lord Lovat's Castle.

In about 1885, at the age of 23, he emigrated to New York, USA and worked his way west by working on large and small stone buildings, reaching Seattle in 1888. After the Seattle fire, Alexander began a partnership with a friend and established MacRae and Munro, Stone Contractors. Their work includes the Baily Building and the building at Second and Cherry.

In 1891, Alexander and his new wife, Janet, moved to Bainbridge Island, where they lived for the rest of their lives.

Alexander helped construct several major buildings in the northwest USA and southwest Canada including the Provincial Parliament building in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. The last building for which he cut stone was the Washington State Capitol in Olympia, Washington, USA.

When he died of the flu in 1933, he had six sons, four daughters and seventeen grandchildren. His remains were cremated.
