The Death Certificate # 9017, State of Montana, Flathead County provides the following information on Joseph Imholt: Born June 17, 1867 in South Stillwater, Minnesota, Joseph was a Carpenter doing "general work". He had last worked at this trade in October 1928. His parents were Bernard Imholt ( b. Westfeilen-Munstel, Germany) and Theresia Roeder (b. Berlin, Germany). Joseph apparently had not been "well" and was under the care of a physician for the three years previous to his death. The Bronch-pneumonia which was the primary cause of death was of abrupt onset, and the Doctor indicates the onset at April 14th and his death occurring in the early morning hours of April 16th. Although Arterio-sclerosis is also listed it is only a contributing cause and not the "principal cause of death." It is interesting to note that the informant on the Death Certificate for vital information is Joseph's sister Mrs. Elizabeth Shubert. She was probably living in Everett, Washington at this time, and must have been summoned by Joseph's wife, Evelyn. Joseph Imholt was aged 67 years 9 months and 29 days at the date of death. He was buried at Woodlawn Cemetery at Columbia Falls, Montana.

Joseph married Sarah Munro on 1 Dec 1897 in Hudson, St Croix Co., WI, St Paul Episcop.. Sarah (daughter of William George Munro and Celina Eliza Duval) was born on 23 May 1864 in Paspebiac, , Québec, Canada; was christened on 7 Aug 1864 in Paspebiac, , Québec, Canada; died on 11 Mar 1920 in Columbia Falls, Flathead Co., Montana, USA; was buried on 14 Mar 1920 in Columbia Falls, Flathead Co., Montana, USA. 2. 3.  Sarah Munro was born on 23 May 1864 in Paspebiac, , Québec, Canada; was christened on 7 Aug 1864 in Paspebiac, , Québec, Canada (daughter of William George Munro and Celina Eliza Duval); died on 11 Mar 1920 in Columbia Falls, Flathead Co., Montana, USA; was buried on 14 Mar 1920 in Columbia Falls, Flathead Co., Montana, USA.

    Notes:

The James Donald Munro reference says Sarah died 11 Feb 1920.

1864 - BORN - Sarah, daughter of William George Munro of Cox Township, farmer, and Selina (sic) Eliza Duval his wife; born May 23, baptized August 7, 1874. Parents: William G. Munro, Celina E. Munro. Sponsors: William Munro and Margaret, his wife (Grandparents), (Mrs.) Mary Gallie (Hocquard) - aunt. ----George Milne, Clergy.

1883 - MARRIED - John Baptist Podester of Jersey (Islands), Master Mariner, bachelor of major age, and Sarah Munro, spinster of minor age (19), were married on November 22, 1883 in the presence of the Bride's father, mother and friends. John B. Podester and Sarah Munro Witnesses: E. LeMarquand, William G. Munro - Bride's father, Margaret Munro. --- George Milne, Clergy.

So far no further records of this marriage have surfaced in the Paspebiac or Quebec records. According to family history, Sarah went to Glasgow, Scotland (or Jersey Islands) with her husband where she had a son. However, apparently her husband abused her, and she returned to America and subsequently obtained a divorce. Sarah, herself lends credence to the existance of this child on her answers to the 1910 Federal Census in Columbia Falls, Montana where she declares "2 children born, and 2 living children" although the only child of her husband Joseph Imholt is William Bernard, who is the only child living with them. She states an immigration date to the United States of 1895; twelve years after her marriage to Capt. J.B. Podister.

NOTE: on the 1900 Federal Census of Columbia Falls, Montana, Sarah admits no children born or living. She is married less than 3 years to Joseph and perhaps does not want to declare her previous child. Also noted is the error in computation on her tenure in the United States - if she immigrated in 1894-5 as stated, then she certainly cannot be a 15 year resident in 1900 ! Probably the census enumerator did not record accurately, or Sarah did not understand her questions.

MARRIED: December 1, 1897 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Hudson, Wisconsin: JOSEPH IMHOLT and SARAH MUNRO of Hudson Wisconsin.

From: The History of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Hudson, Wisconsin, Published Sept 15, 1984 by Star-Observer Publishing Company, Hudson, WI. Marriages, Vol II.

An interesting aside to this marriage of Joseph Imholt from the Catholic Imholt family to Sarah Munro, not only Protestant but divorced, would be his alienation from the Communrion Rites of his church. Joseph took Sarah and returned to Columbia Falls, Montana, where they attended a local Protestant church. Joseph's brothers and sister Theresia married and raised practicing Catholic families. Not only distance, but also religeon may have been a divisive factor although recently discovered correspondence indicates Joseph and his sisters were supportive and understanding with each other.

DEATH: On the Death Certificate # 2627 of Flathead County, State of Montana, Sarah is listed as 55 years 9 months and 18 days old on the date of her death 11 March 1920. Sarah had been ill with "Acute Sinusitis" for less than a month when she died at 3 A.M. with complicating "Acute Meningitis." Apparently her death was sudden and unexpected as she had seen her doctor only two days before on March 8th, and he was called to her bedside shortly before her death on the early morning of the 11th. An autopsy was done to confirm the cause of death. Sarah was buried at the Woodlawn Cemetery at Columbia Falls, Montana, on March 14th.

DEATH: William George Munro, died 27 March, 1914, age 75. Buried at Fairview Cemetery, Stillwater, Minn.

From: St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Hudson, Wisconsin; Burial Records, Vol III. Church History published Sept. 15, 1984, Hudson, WI.

St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Hudson, Wisconsin would have been the church of choice for Celina Duval Munro as she had always been listed on Canadaian census records as "Anglican" or "Episcopalian" and their children had been baptised in St. Andrew's Anglican Church at Paspebiac, Quebec. The Munro's, as well as the Sherar's, Caldwell's and all the other Scottish Colonists at Paspebiac and New Carlisle preferred their own Scottish Presbyterian Church and attended as long as it was available. Later it merged with the other presbyterian churches and became the "United Church." By the time William George Munro emigrated to Wisconsin his family was attending this church and the transition to the St. Paul's Episcopalian in Hudson, Wisconsin was a natural choice. This was the predominent Protestant church in Hudson, as the Episcopalian ministery was established at Hudson by 1860 and continued to grow and prosper. There were Munro children married from this church (Sarah, Emily, Margaret, Jane and Albert) as well as baptisms of some of their children, and finally the funerals of both Celina and William G. Munro in later years.

  1. 12.  William Thomas Munro was born on 24 Aug 1811 in Caraquet, Gloucester Co., New Brunswick, Canada (son of William Johnson Munro and Sarah Sherar); died on 22 Aug 1886 in Bathurst, Gloucester Co., New Brunswick, Canada; was buried in Aug 1886 in Paspebiac, , Québec, Canada.

    Notes:

William owned property south of the Anglican Church at New Carlisle. The street west of the church was the west boundary of the property. Later he traded with Mr. Edward Caldwell for the property in Paspebiac where he made his home. It was here that he started to clear his farm in a thick wooded country of maple, birch, spruce, pine and cedar which was of little value in those days.

The lumber for the buildings were sawed with a whip saw at the old saw pit. Shingles were split from cedar logs and shaved with the draw knife.

He later gave the eastern part of the property to his son William.

While on a visit to the Carr Harris home at Bathurst, William became seriously ill. The doctor was summoned, but he pronounced the case hopeless, and William died shortly after. He was 75 years old.
