Philip Ashburton Munroe

Notes:

Philip attended Melrose, Massachusetts schools and graduated from Melrose High School in 1917. He later graduated from Boston University with a degree in business administration.

During World War I, he served in the Army, and during World War II, he served in the Navy as a Lieutenant Commander in North Africa, and Japan and was in Southern France on D Day.

For 41 years, he was an executive for Standard Oil Co. of New Jersey, (later Mobil Oil Co.), retiring in 1962. He then moved to Freeport, Massachusetts.

Philip was a member of the Pequossett Masonic Lodge, Watertown, Massachusetts, Allopee Temple Shriners in Boston, Founders and Patriots of America in Maine and Massachusetts, and was a past governor of that organization in Maine. He was a life member and past president of the Retired Officers Association, Pine Tree chapter, and the Reserve Officers Association.

He enjoyed golf and gardening.

He died at a Yarmouth, Massachusetts nursing home.

Luther married Emily Louise Ashburton Wiley on 10 Apr 1851 in Lynnfield, Essex Co., Massachusetts, USA. Emily was born on 25 Aug 1832 in Lynnfield, Essex Co., Massachusetts, USA; died on 16 Aug 1894 in Lynnfield, Essex Co., Massachusetts, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Notes:

Emily's father was Robert Wiley of Boston, England. He was a soldier in the English Army, who deserted and eloped to America with Rosetta Benton, a ward of Sir Harry Benton.

Emily was named after her mother's old friend in England, Lady Emily Louise Ashburton.
