In 1850, Robert was living in Juniata, Pennsylvania with his widoed mother.

The following was written by Robert in the family Bible:

Error alert: Apparently there were two children in this family named Robert Bull Monroe. The older one died young and then the next child was given the same name. However, three different birth dates are given to these two children in the reference. I don't know which dates are correct.

At the age of 25, John was pressed into his Majesty's 42nd Royal Highlands Regiment. He served 9 years in America during the French and Indian War. He was discharged at Cork in Ireland on 10 Sep 1767 and then immediately returned to America and in about 1770, he settled in Chester County, Pennsylvania.
