Generation: 2

  1. 2.  Farquhar Munro, of Teanoird was born about 1513 (son of Alexander Munro, of Kiltearn and Janet McLean).

    Notes:

Ferquhar Munro of Teanard and his five brothers were known as "Sliochd Alasdair mhic Huistain." Teanard formed the north or upper half of the lands of Kiltearn and Ferquhar sometimes appears as portioner of Kiltern.

His wife was the daughter of McGillespick, rentaller of Fyrish.

    Ref: "The Munro Tree (1734)" by R. W. Munro - M/38, M/71, M/76

Alexander Munro of Kiltearn married a daughter of Ferquhar McLean of Davochgerrie by whom he had Mr Donald Hugh Alexr. of Ardulli John of Kiltearn Ferquhar of Teanard William of Culcraigie all considerable families flourishing in several Branches.

...sons of Alexander son of Hugh Donald, Hugh, Alexander, John, Farquhar, William. This group were known as Sliochd Alasdair mhic Huistain.

John was portioner of Kiltearn having the south of nether half while brother Farquhar M/76 had north or upper half...

Ferquhar of Teanard his 4 son married Anne daughter to McGillespick Rentaller of ffyrish by whom he had Williamd and Alexander and a daughter fflorence married to Dingwall Bailzie of Dingwall.

Teanaird formed north or uper half of lands of Kiltearn and Farquhar sometimes appears a portioner of Kiltearn (FW 140, 255, 300). Mackenzie 400-1 sometimes confuses this Farquhar with grandson M/78.

Farquha rbought the lands of Milntown of Alness from Robert Gray of Arboll for 4000 Scots merks on 7 Jun 1650. He sold this property on 5 Mar 1666 to Hugh Munro of Teaninich for the same amount.

Hugh was an elder of the Kiltearn Parish.

The following is a transcription of RW Munro's genealogy notes:

[Alexander Monro] «i»Younger son of Farquhar Monro (of Teanaird family).; witness to contract of 1666. (Mackenzie confuses father with earlier Farquhar, his grandfather.) this may really be Alexander, son of William of T. & elder bro. of Farquhar of T.

[Not in Munro Tree (M/78)] - but see M/80; Mackenzie, 400 - 1666 contract from Teaninich papers prob. refers to next Farquhar (p. 400) - but perhaps the whole thing is a misreading of a document. «/i»

    Died:
Error alert: Mackenzie gives Farquhar's death date as about 1670, but this is not likely because his father was born in 1480. It is known that Mackenzie sometimes confuses Farquhar with his grandson who was also named Farquhar.

Farquhar married Anne McGillespick. Anne was born about 1518; and died. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
