    Notes:

    Albert Munro of Coul was a writer in Edinburgh. He served as treasurer of Heriot's Hospital and director of SPCK. He sold his estate which was formerly known as Culmalachie.

    Albert served as an elder in the Alness Church and was one of the five heritors of that parish who voted for the appointment of the Rev. James Fraser to succeed the Rev. Daniel Mackillican, who died 22 Jun 1724.

    Albert frequently represented the Presbytery of Dingwall as one of its commissioners at the General Assembly 1727-1743. He took a deep interest in the welfare of his native parish, and was instrumental, along with Captain George Munro, of Culrain, and Hugh Munro, of Teaninich in getting the church repaired in 1738 and the manse in 1744.

    He lived most of his life in Edinburgh, and was an elder in the Tolbooth Church there. He sold the estate of Coul to Hugh Munro of Teaninich and died unmarried.

Munro??? 1727…1743, 1752, Albert Munro of Coul Esq. d. unmarried Edinburgh 20 or 22 Jul 1772, having lived there most of his life and being an elder from 1727 in the Tolbooth Church there; served heir to uncle Dr. John of Coul in 1/4 of lands of Culcraigie 1764; the last direct male of his family, sold estate of Coul to Hugh Munro of Teaninich (1756 valuation L254-10-0) (d. 1767) whose brother James of Teaninich arranged payment of Albert's legacy of L100 for poor of Inverness; treasurer to Herot's???     Rev. Andrew Munro was minister of Thurso and proprietor of Coul.

    Andrew studied for the Church at King's College and the University of Aberdeen, where he graduated with an M.A. degree in 1650. He was ordained and admitted as minister of Thurso on 4 Nov 1655. He was deposed in 1681 for refusing to take the Test Oath, but was reinstated by Act of Parliament on 25 Apr 1690.

    In 1659, Andrew contracted to marry Christina, daughter of Mr. John Munro, minister of Alness and on 10 Jul 1662, the contract was registered in the Books of the Sheriffdom of Ross. However, the marriage did not take place because of "the sudden death of the lady or some other important cause." Instead, Andrew married Christian, daughter of John Munro of Culcraggie in the same year.

  1. 8.  Hector Munro, Of Coul was born est 1598 in Of, Coul, Scotland (son of Robert Munro, Of Coul and Elizabeth Munro); and died.

    Notes:

    Major Hector Munro of Coul served in Mackay's Regiment in Germany. He was wounded at Oldenberg in 1627 and was involved in the Engagement of 1648 and the Worcester campaign.

    At Oldenberg in 1627, after being wounded in the foot, Hector was ordered to go to the rear for treatment. He replied that "it was not time, till he had emptied his Bandaliers against his enemies." Before he had accomplished his object, he was shot in the other foot. He had to be assisted to the rear by some of his comrades, but he would not permit them to retire too far with him, for fear that it damage their military reputations. (Mackenzie p. 212)

    His wife was Isobell Ross, daughter of Andrew Ross of Belintore.

    "Major Hector served in Mackay's Regt in Germany, wounded Oldenberg 1627, involved in Engagement of 1648 and Worcester campaign; youngers sons not accounted for; John said to have suc. grandfather as min of Farr, but Mackenzie 386 perhaps confuses him with John min of Reay."

    Notes:

    John was born out of wedlock, but was legitimized in 1625. He was made Burgess of Edinburgh in 1620. He purchased Culcraggie from his cousin and was then known as John Munro, 1st of Culcraggie.

    His wife was the daughter of Muire, Burgess of Kirkcaldie.

    "Hector Munro of Culcragie was Lieut. to a foot company under Sir George Munro in Germany and returning thence sold of Culcragie to John Munro Burges of Edinburgh."

    John was made Burgess of Edinburgh in 1620. He was an illegitimate son of Andrew Munro of Kincraige, but was legitimated in 1625.

    John was called "Burgess of Edinburgh" when he purchased the estate of Culcraggie and an army commission from his distant cousin, Hector Munro. At that time, the estate included Culmellachie, Culcraggie and Acharn. John also purchased other lands contiguous to his property.

    Ref. (1) says John married Margaret, daughter of Andrew Munro of Balaldie. R.W. Munro says this is incorrect.

    John died before 15 Feb 1655.
