    Martin is listed as a clerk in Paterson, New Jersey (1900). He served as a second lieutenant on the staff of General Phil Kearny in the Civil War. He was the planner and warden of Greystone Psychiatric Hospital, the State Hospital for the Insane, in Morris Plains, New Jersey.

    Martin's wife, Frances, was from Paterson, New Jersey. The 1900 census says they had 5 children.

    One reference says that Duncan and Catherine were born in Scotland. Duncan was from Pompton township and Hanover, New Jersey. Duncan may have died in the 1840's because the 1850 census has Catherine and their son, Martin living with William and Catherine Waites and their children in Paterson, New Jersey.
