| 1. | David Munro was born about 1608 in Of, Latheron, Caithness, Scotland (son of John Munro, Of Pittonachy and Florentine Ross); died about 7 Oct 1668 in Of, Lairg, Caithness, Scotland. Notes:
David entered the Church and became minister of Latheron about 1630. He was deposed in 1649 for subscribing Montrose's "articles."
On 21 Oct 1652 he petitioned the Synod to recommend him to some parish in the diocese of Caithness, which they seem to have done, as he was the minister of the parish of Lairg before 7 May 1663. He died before 7 Oct 1668.
Ref. (2) erroneously calls him John.

John Munro younger of Pittonachly acquired the lands of Contulich.
He entered the Church and in 1585 King James VI presented him to the vicarage of Kilmuir Easter to succeed Neil Munro, who was deposed "for non-residence and not serving his cure."

Ref. (3) says John's mother was Janet Fraser, his father's wife. But refs. (1) & (2) say that John was born out of wedlock and his mother's name is is not known. It is believed that the latter version is correct.
Pittonachy or Pittonachty was later renamed Rosehaugh.

John Moir Munro of Balcony married Agnes (or Katherine), the daughter of John and Elizabeth Vass of Loch Sline. He is also on record as John Munro of Urquhart. One reference calls him the 3rd earl of Coul and 2nd of Balconie.

Mackenzie p. 559 and the Andrews reference say John was the son of Hugh Munro I of Coul, but Mackenzie p. 342-343 says he was the grandson of Hugh.
