Martha's husband was Major Isaac Strickland. He and his brother, Hastings, were in the "Aroostook War". He told Ira T. Monroe that after they got back to Augusta, the officers all make themselves heroes. It was here that the Major smoked his first cigar with direful result. He never smoked again.
Isaac lived on the Sam Boothby farm near Bartlett's Corner when he was married, but soon moved to Brettun's Mills, where he lived in several places. He kept the "Tavern" for many years and its hall was used for balls, levees, town meetings, court trials, shows and religious meetings.
