Ref (1) says Bennett was born 7 Oct 1708 and died 25 Oct 1775. Refs (2) and (3) say he was born 1 or 7 Oct 1708.

Captain Bennett Munro lived for sometime at the Munro place on the corner of Hope and Franklin Streets, Bristol, Rhode Island, but for the greater part of his life, he lived on the Mt. Hope Farm (now Church's) then owned by Isaac Royal of Boston. Royal was a Tory and his property was confiscated in the Revolution and purchased from the state by Gov. Bradford.

Bennett was Vestryman at St. Michaels Church, Bristol, Rhode Island. He was the second of six generations to hold that position.

Ref (3) says that all of Bennett's children came from his first marriage to Sarah Bosworth, but Ref (2) says Bosworth died in 1754.

Bennett married Sarah Bosworth on 11 Nov 1733 in Bristol, Bristol Co., Rhode Island, USA. Sarah (daughter of Col. Nathaniel Bosworth and Sarah) was born on 2 Feb 1715 in Bristol, Bristol Co., Rhode Island, USA; died on 12 Aug 1754 in Bristol, Bristol Co., Rhode Island, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Ref (2) says that all of Bennett's children came from his marriage to Sarah Bosworth, but according to most references Sarah died in 1754, before the birth of 9 of Bennett's children.

It is thought that the information for this William and William [6959] may be somehow mixed together. It is not certain which William married Elizabeth Corey. There are two death dates, 1777 and 1759. It is not certain which date belongs to which William.

His grave stone says he died 8 Oct 1777 age 58, which would place his birth in about 1719. Other sources say he was born 16 May 1726. Again, there may be two people confused here.

William married Elizabeth Cory on 19 May 1742. Elizabeth was born about 1718; died on 12 Oct 1803; was buried in North Cem., Bristol, Rhode Island. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Ref. (1) says that William was the son of William [185].

William settled in Bristol, Rhode Island in 1698. He owned a farm that extended from the Grey Farm on the north to Mt. Hope on the south, and east to the Narrows. It was called the "Major Munro Farm" and was owned by the Munro family until 1900. It was later occupied by the Columban fathers.

He served as executor of the estate of his neighbor, Colonel Henry McIntosh (Mt. Hope Farm) and managed the property of his widow, Madam McIntosh. At the orginization in 1724 of St. Michaels Church, Bristol, Rhode Island, William became Vestryman. His son, Bennett [183], grandsons James [6969] and Edward [182], great-grandson Bennett [181], 2nd great-grandsons John [179] and Otis [7052], and 3rd great-grandson Wilfred [7053] have all been Vestrymen - six generations.

When he died, he had 30 slaves who were given to his children. He and several of his descendants were buried on the farm and their grave stones were later moved to the Major Munro lot at the North Cemetery (Neck).

One of his sons is said to have had no children, and another is said to have moved to Connecticut.

His wife, Mary Lindsay, was the sister of John Lindsay, who married William's sister, Elizabeth. One source says his wife was Elizabeth Carey, but this is unconfirmed. On Mary's grave stone it says she died 8 Nov 1760 at the age of 85, which places her birth in about 1675. Ref. (1) says 1685 and other sources say 1684, 1685 or 1677.
